Math Club

Math Club is open to every Liberty student who enjoys mathematics, in any major. Members solve problems together, compete, do research, and prepare for graduate school and careers.

Rooms are announced in club emails.

  • AI Panel , 10:30 to 11:30 AM A panel discussion on artificial intelligence.
  • Second Liberty Estimathon , 10:30 to 11:30 AM Teams race to estimate answers to quantitative questions. The contest returns after its first run last fall. How the Estimathon works
  • Math Activity , 10:30 to 11:30 AM Snowflake cutting, coloring, and snacks.

Math Club sends a newsletter and email updates at least once a month. To get them, use the "Email to join" button above, or find the faculty advisor's email on the Contact page.

Teams

  • Research team Small groups work on one project with a faculty mentor and present it as a poster, paper, or talk.
  • Competition team Students take the Putnam exam in the fall and compete in the Integration Bee in the spring. No competition experience is needed.
  • Interdisciplinary team Students apply data analysis, statistics, and modeling to questions from other departments. Faculty with a project idea can email the advisor.

Honor societies

  • Kappa Mu Epsilon Liberty's Virginia Iota chapter, active since 1989. New members are inducted each fall.
  • Pi Mu Epsilon The national mathematics honor society. New members are inducted each spring.

Invitations generally consider completed calculus courses, mathematics GPA, and overall GPA. Send eligibility questions to the faculty advisor through the Contact page.
